Darn medicine

I knew only time would tell if the antibiotic would agree with me. Or maybe I should have laid off the vanilla ice cream last night. 'Whateva' gave me a good GERDY type of episode this morning. I was talking to my mom and it started.I had called the doctor to say I wasn't coming in-this was around 10:15. About 1/2 hour later the nurse called back and said my urine was negative-for what? Going to that office is like taking a boat ride on the magical mystery tour. Anyway, it took a few Rolaids to calm me down (I cough and gag-not pretty). I haven't had one of those for a year, so it has to be the medicine. Only 5 more pills!!
Lucky me gets to go to the bank and post office today.
We had a little snow overnight, but it's mostly gone now. I was leaving messages on The Bachelor board (it was late and I was bored) when I noticed that the motion detector light out front was on and there was snow all over the van.
~CONTEST ALERT~
Home Depot is giving away a tractor a day from 2/23 to 3/8. You have to register. Go to homedepot.com/tractors. They have a cute flash of mowers doing their jobs.
Also at marthastewart.com she is giving away 20 essential tools for your kitchen. I just tried to sign up but it must be overloaded because of her show just airing.
Today is Fat Tuesday, so I think I'll get fat hoagies for dinner and have a nice fish meal tomorrow.

I saw it in his eyes

Geez Louise-could they have dragged that Bachelor show out any longer? At least Dr. Travis McHunky picked the right girl-the kindergarten teacher Sarah. I scared the cat by clapping when the first limo pulled up and Moana climbed out. That girl thought she had it all wrapped up. I can see why no one really liked her that much. And to tell you the truth, the producers probably told Travis to kept her as one of the girls for ratings. I remember seeing the shocked looks on the other ladies' faces when he would pick her at the rose ceremony.
The laugh of the night was when Travis' little niece drew a picture and said she liked Moana better. Little kids remember the last person they spent time with. The entire family went to France to check the two girls out. And guess who they liked-Sarah of course. I know this show is mostly a bunch of BS, but it's fun to watch. I guess sometimes we gals need to see a little romance and hope it rubs off on our someone.

I was trying to finish up my house cross stitch and I had to rip out a windowbox because it was a stitch off. I am getting down to the nitty gritty. I really like it too.

Ah, it's after midnight, someone is feeling better

Yep, had a pretty good day yesterday. The headache went away, but I have a little heartburn.
People are telling me to get a new doctor (well they are in a herbal medicine group). They couldn't believe she wanted me to take two antibiotics without a proper diagnosis. Believe me, I'm thinking about it. I ate normally today and was fine. I feel bad because Sean and the doc's son are pals.
I clipped some magazines and found some good recipes and crafting ideas. I'll have to share a few here.
Ok-one is to get a large vase (they showed a clear glass cylinder shaped one). You add a little water in the bottom, but the thing is to have the flower inside the vase. I'll definitely try it and show you. Sandy, this would be make some cool shots.
The other thing I liked were the layers of jelly beans in jars-similar to sand art! It looked pretty-a layer of green, then a layer of pink, green-well you get the idea. Easter is coming up.
Let's see-the other was using beach glass in shallow dishes instead of gravel. I also clipped the page with the 'crop circle' made of moss with pebbles for the swirls in a dish garden.
I'm like Zoey, I am wanting to do creative inside things before gardening outside takes over.

I may be MIA for a few days

I had to go to the doctor this morning because of muscle spasms in my stomach and discomfort in my left side and lower left side. The thing that was keeping me awake the most was the 'baby kick' like spasm. I think I had 2 hours sleep last night. I tried all my basic trying to get comfy techniques-heat rub, Tylenol and the heating pad until I got a little panicky around 6 am. So the doctor mentioned diverticulosis and put me on two kinds of antibiotics! Antibiotics and me do not mix well and I've only taken one and already had issues. And I'm on a liquid diet with a few crackers thrown in if I'm starving. I still think I have irritable bowel syndrome (only time will tell). Brian was nice enough to stay home and drive me (I am cross-eyed from sleep deprivation but I can't seem to relax all the way to get in a decent nap, plus it's too noisy around here). The jello and chicken broth were 'just yummy'. I've had discomfort in the LLQ before and I got over it. I told Dr. H (whose son is one of Sean's best friends) that I tried pilates and that maybe one of my problems. I did have a wee fever-99.4. She said if I felt worst to go to the ER over the weekend. I didn't care for that remark. I have to go back to the doctor Monday or Tuesday.
So wish me luck. My weekend is basically ruined-no home show that I really wanted to attend. I feel crummy anyway.

Near miss

Ever see that movie 'Starman' and Jeff Bridges goes faster when he sees the yellow traffic light? A flash of a second after they go through the red light and avoid a collusion (I believe it's with a train?) Karen Allen asks the hybrid alien that looks like her husband, "why did you do that, you could have gotten us killed!" With that Jeff replies, "Yellow means to go faster, like you did."
I believe that's the way most people drive nowadays. I was heading to my mom's and on a long stretch of the main route I take. A car behind me was edging up on me and I was hoping they would go around me, but no! About 100 feet from the light that was turning yellow, I started to slow down, but not my 'friend' behind me. No, they thought I was going to race through this wide intersection. I heard her hit her brakes and I veered to the right and saved being rear-ended! I swear I have a guardian angel watching me! So I had my heart in my throat for a few minutes, believe me. A little further down, a small truck was behind me, almost tailgating. I do drive the speed limit and maybe over about 5 mph sometimes. I hit my brake lights several times and put my signal on and the jackass got off my back. I mean, are you really going to get where you are going any faster?
Good things about my afternoon-seeing mom; getting her Webtv to work again (found a keyboard for her to use); going to Joann's and getting a 1/2 price xs kit (three old-fashioned purses); having a Shrimp Lejon brick oven pizza; bringing Brian home some brew; seeing Kenny and Tori (my nephew and niece); seeing the progress my brother is making on his kitchen/family room (he's amazing) and having a good ride home! Whew!
Sad about Sasha falling on her butt. She's so talented, I like her skating so much better than the Japanese girl who won. But giving Japan it's first medal of the game and first ever gold medal in figure skating is awesome!

Thank you Oprah

I've been totally blown away by the generosity of 'our girlfriend' the last few days. She wants to keep the survivors of Katrina in our minds and she's touched me to the core. My dinner sure didn't taste that great after I saw what those poor souls were STILL going through 6 months later. Horrible-living in tents when there were dozens of vacant trailers just sitting on lots. FEMA, man, get your act together.
The show yesterday was when the homes of 'Angel Lane' in Houston, Texas were presented to some of the survivors. The people who got them helped to build them. Nate Berkus decorated them. They were so nice. What a dream come true.
I was telling Sean that when your home is taken away, you must feel so lost. All the things you hold dear are ruined. They showed many of the families go back to their old homes to try to salvage a little something (they had to wear masks and special clothing because of the mold). Few could find anything.

So aren't you glad 8 people won the lottery and that they all were not rich to begin with? I hope they are charitable and give some of it away. Some people can't handle money. Brian heard that instant millionaires spend about $5 million of it the first year. Can you imagine?

Word bubble

I did this with my flickr photo tags, so here are the words from the main page of my blog (plus some):

I know, you can't even read them all. I surely didn't want Walters or Travis on here. ; )

I broke down and took Sudafed around 3. Sean had taken me out to run some errands (one was getting a new battery for the portable phone that has been dying for months). I made a chicken tenders recipes from the Martha Stewart Everyday Food magazine which the guys liked.

Sean has been watching American Idol and I listen and look. I really looked when Ace came on tonight! What a hunk with his rosy cheeks. And he can sing and the camera loves him. Not one of you should say I am old enough to be his mom-so what? I can admire fine machinery when it is presented to me.

Gotta get to mom's in about 12 hours! ; )

I am not flexible-part 2

I was to go visit my mom and take her a keyboard for her Webtv, but I am having sinus problems and I am just so fatigued (probably from the pilates and staying up too late). I hate to disappoint her, but going to her house is a long, stressful trip for me. She hasn't driven out here since last June because of her shingles. I'll probably get my act together tomorrow.
I was watching Martha and she had this country singer on who I have never heard of:

His name is Billy Currington and his birthday-Nov. 19th! (I looked him up).

He's a pretty decent singer.

And he has eyes like my friend Chris. So Chris, you look like Billy, Steve Carell and Jeff Foxworthy. ; )

See what I mean? This is Chris and me taken in Dec. '02 at his sister's house.

We hadn't seen each other since Sean was a baby.

We've know each other since I was about 6 and he was about 3.

I am not flexible

I finally opened one of my pilates programs yesterday and watched Jennifer Pohlman from Aussy move like her limbs were elasticized. I mean she was so graceful and had the longest legs-I was in awe. I did try about half of the moves. I think the breathing is good as sometimes I just don't give my lungs the air they deserve. I know I have a mat somewhere too as my back was a bit sore from just laying on the area rug. When Jen said to not do the 'rollover' if you have back problems, I just watched as she easily lifted her legs over her head and touched the floor! Mama mia!
Nothing is really hurting me right now, so that's a good thing.
Now here are the goodies I got in the mail yesterday:
Beginners' Belly Dancing!! OMG-the girls at my Domestic Goddess tribe (among others) love to do this. I thought I'd try it out. There's always Richard Simmons if I still want to shake my groove thing! But the outfits-all the scarves and metallics-well I'll have to see.
I got some nice stitching fabric from Silkweaver's for my Cape May design(fabric is called 'Ocean Fantasy') with swirls of blues. I let them pick out some samples of their other fabric and they sent a pale terra cotta and a beige color-both 32 count! Yikes, I never go that small, but we'll see. Now I can enter designs in their contests since I purchased some of their fabric. I think I'll be visiting there often.
Thanks to Barbara for her snailmail note. What a pleasant surprise. I owe you one!
I hope you all got to see the American girls figure skating Tuesday night. Sasha Cohen was excellent! Good for her. I hope she wins the Gold.

Here is a 'flexible' person.

Didn't Barbara Walters retire?

The only reason I watch 'The View' is for Meredith Viera. The other ladies kinda bug me for their various personalities. And this morning when I saw Barbara Walters hugging topless guys in Vegas, I gave up on it and got on the computer. Now don't get me wrong, she's a smart lady, but BW, when you say you left 20/20 and The View, stick to 'your retirement'. Go on trips, have fun in your golden years. It seems like you are more able to enjoy life than my mom. I can't stand when she is on The View as she takes over the show.
Speaking of tv-did you happen to watch the Wife Swap special? I know, I should watch the Olympics, but it gets boring at times. Anyway, seems like WS really changed so many of the participates and for the better. And they all look so different! That '15 minutes of fame' did wonders for hairstyles and clothing choices (well most of them anyway).
I then left that channel on for 'The Bachelor' who I am somewhat attracted to as he reminds me of a guy I had a crush on in college. Travis gets the same looks on his face and shares the same jaw line as my guy. The last two girls are polar opposites. We have the kindergarten teacher Sarah who lives 'within miles' of where Travis lives in Nashville and Moana (Moe-anna) who is, (what does she do?) from California. I know what Travis is thinking-Sarah's the perfect wife and Moana is the mistress. I bet he choses the later. Of all those Bachelor/Bachelorette shows, there has been one marriage-one about to marry and I think one still dating. Not that great on the averages.
Here's some of cutie pies diary. The poor guy is having the wool pulled over his eyes. I think he is way cool for either one of them. ; )

Here's 'Dr McHunky' so I can look at him for a few days. ; )

Coming out of the long stretch

Not much new. We aren't millionaires for one thing. ; )
Glad it is still cold enough outside that I don't mind doing inside work. Cleaning out a kitchen with over 19 yrs worth of stuff and finding room down the basement for it isn't fun. I am finding stuff that I haven't looked at in years. I should follow the example of the show 'Clean Sweep' and just ditch most of it. As mentioned earlier-I have too many baskets and cookie tins! I loaded up two big plastic bags with them to give away, but I still have too many. I ran across a rowing machine just plopped down in the middle of all that mess. What are Brian and Sean doing you ask? Not much except to carry the crates downstairs. Brian did run the vacuum for me where I cleaned. I couldn't find a dust mask, so I used a long scarf which made the cat do a double take. I don't know if it helped that much (no coughing attacks) as my whole face hurt last night.
I wonder who cleans out the houses on the Extreme Makeover:Home Edition? I guess if they have 50+ people doing it, then it's not that bad. I guess they have a big storage unit for them. I wonder if they are truly surprised when the team comes to their house at the crack of dawn? Maybe they are told the producer or someone is coming to look at their house in person.
I better get back to work....soon.

An Omen Perhaps?

Bri and I rolled out of bed at 9 am to go sign the papers for the home equity loan. We had to wait (remember we had to wait for the H&R Block lady on Monday)and finally it's our turn. We sit down and Brian notices that they have him as 'Senior' on the paperwork which isn't the case. They spelled my name incorrectly and omitted my middle initial. They have to reprint the paperwork! So that sets us back 3 days and we're all scheduled to order the cabinets next Sunday. That is probably going to change now. Bummer.
Ok-that Powerball drawing is tonight. Brian only bought $5 worth of games, BUT one line has both an '11' and a '19' in it-my birthday! The machine picked it. Oh wouldn't that be so nice to get a nibble of that jackpot.
Back to more junk and food sorting. Anyone on a jello kick? I have about 20 boxes of it!!

Flightplan

Believe me you complete fools!!!!!

My birthday twin Jodie Foster was excellent in Flightplan. As I mentioned earlier in Carol's comments that the premise of this movie is one of my worst real life dreams, not to be able to find someone I love. Of course I had dreams about getting lost on the boardwalk at the shore or in Florida. But I'm a person who would just find my way back to the hotel and yell when the boys came back. ; )
It was a pretty good thriller. We had to stop and go back to catch some of the dialog, but I would recommend it.
Jodie Trivia:
Date of Birth: November 19, 1962 (along with Meg Ryan and Alison Janney and many others).
Jodie Foster got her start as a pig-tailed tyke at age two in her first commercial for Coppertone suntan lotion.

Sometimes being a packrat sucks

I was just down in the basement putting laundry in the washer. I decided to look around to see where I could put the crates and bags that are making there way down there from the kitchen. So I told you about the magazines-the next thing that has to sorted and mostly donated are baskets (mostly Easter) and tins (for cookies). Anyone need any? : )
I made a mistake of not having a dust mask on because my original purpose was not to move dusty things around. Well, I got overtaken with dust and almost had a panic attack! I had to call my mom afterwards to have her calm me down. I know I'm not going to choke, but it sure felt like I swallowed about 4 cottonballs. I have this great natural allergy medicine-BioAllers nasal spray which I highly recommend. I used some and it made me sneeze so I felt better. I think my nasal problem stems back from when I was having lots of nose bleeds as a kid and the doctor cauterized my nostrils. That was really painful. Now I think I am oversensitive to smells...and dust. Plus I fractured my nose in a car accident-wonder if that did anything?
I did find a folded up $10 bill! Woo hoo-I was broke too. ; )

BTW, the snow is almost all melted. I was shocked when I looked out the window this morning.

Stitching Blogger Question

Q. Comment on your comments (giving and recieving): Do you love comments
or hate them? Do you check them every day, never check them, or find
them helpful? And finally, are you convinced no one is reading your
blog if you don't get any?

Well...of course everyone loves nice comments. I appreciate them and also those that make me think. I've been a bit annoyed at the Jahari Window post (and I am sure I am being entertainment for some). I asked Abby if she knew everyone who had done that test on her blog and she didn't know three of them-all of which left her the same kind of descriptive words that I got!
I like helpful comments too and will leave these myself.

Off to see my ma

I haven't seen my mom for a few weeks. She can't really drive here anymore because of her sciatica and shingles pain on the right side. She has some good days where she can go out and shop (which she loves) or she has days where she is in bed most of the day. She's one of these seniors who is still living in her home because it's the cheapest place she can live, but it's really too big for her to take care of. She does have a boarder there, but he isn't handy at all. He was only suppose to live at her house for a few days and it's turned into almost 5 yrs. He is slowly moving his books and stuff into her house. He should go live with his sister in Texas instead of making all his problems my mom's problems.
Now being her only daughter can be a challenge at times. I lend my ear and offer advice, mostly over the phone. If I had a big home (come on Powerball 2-18), I am sure I'd have an in-law suite for her. I can feel terribly sorry for her or I can get so mad at her I can't talk to her for a few days (which doesn't happen often). I try to take her out for a good meal when I do see her, because most times she doesn't really eat right. I have two brothers who live near her but rarely see her. This hurts her and then she starts saying- 'no one would care if I wasn't around anymore' . This pulls at my heart.
Does anyone out there get heel pain or problems? I have had pain off and on for over a year in my right heel. It's been pretty good for the last few months. Tuesday night I put on these new boots that mom gave me for Christmas and I got a new heel problem-like a vibration in it! It's the weirdest thing and has been going on now since Tuesday. Brian said it's probably a nerve. It really doesn't hurt-it's more annoying.
Sean has to read a story to his speech class. He needs to change his vocal intonations, etc. He didn't know what he was going to read. He was thinking of Dr Seuss or even a scary story. It occurred to me that I had a book I found at a sale called 'Politically Correct Fairy Tales'. I gave it to him to check out and he picked out 'Jack in the Beanstalk'! He's going to practice over the weekend. I said to even tape himself reading it. He tends to talk really fast when he is reading, even bumping some words. This is one of his more demanding classes next to math. Wish him luck.

Darn that Powerball!

If only....right? Wow, if we had a wee fraction of that $340 million we could really change a lot of people's lives. No loan, pay off mortgages for everyone, go on dream vacations, etc. But those are material things. I wouldn't be happy unless I donated to cancer research and a million other things.

And blogger pals...would you like to go the link below for me? I had one person do it who doesn't even know me. I can take what they dish out, but I'd rather have people do the description part who have read my blog or talked to me on the phone. Better yet-met me in person. So my 'pal' in Kansas or Los Angeles-why don't you introduce yourself?
I'm BOLD-no one else in my family blogs! ; )
I'm nervous and tense-yeah-about to take out a big old loan-that would make any one shake in their shoes.
Introverted-I don't need other people around me all the time, but when I am around people I like, they know it.
Powerball update-OMG!!!! No one won again.

Camera phone candids

Gee, I finally figured out how to send these!
These were just tonight out at dinner. (These were edited by me).

Cool shot of Sean

Yes, he is trying to play basketball in the snow! He has a Stress management class and has to have photos himself doing activities to 'relieve stress'. Ha! The basketball is caught in midair!

Things related to me...

Thanks for the idea Carol! These are my flickr tags as seen in my sidebar.

Happy Valentine's Day

The Anne Geddes website sent me the link to this, so I am sharing one of the cute babies with all of you. Isn't this little one precious?
I hope you have a lovely day. I'm hoping to try a new restaurant tonight with my husband of almost 22 yrs.

Kitchen update-not much to post unless you want to hear the fact that I have several junk drawers that must have reproduced themselves over the years. How many batteries and chandelier bulbs do we need? And another thing that I have way too many of is plastic food storage containers! I tossed a huge bag of these. I'd say I am almost half the cabinets cleaned out-I just need the crates for storage or I'd be further along. Everytime I go to get some the crates the store is either doing inventory or are about to close. Last night, we waited an unbelievable 1.5 hours for our turn at the tax prep office. Brian could have done the work, but we need the info pronto because of Sean's student aid requests. We complained, believe me!

Snowfall

Taken out the dining room window (out back)
A view from our front door. Are you crazy, it's cold out there!
The guys are digging us out now. Hope they knock some of the snow off the bushes there. Total? Hmmm....at least 12-15"!!!!

Cottonball land

It truly is a beautiful sight to behold. Glad it's Saturday as we could stay in and watch the snow fall from about 3 pm on. It's sticking to all the bushes around the house and really looks like the cotton growing down south. Hopefully I can go out tomorrow and take a few photos. (And I get to wear my new boots-finally! Thanks ma!)
Didn't do too much today. Brian carried two big boxes down the basement and I cringed upon seeing the piles and piles of magazines all over the place down there. I grabbed a big armful (after choking on the dust) and went through most of them. I need to repeat that activity about 100 more times so I can work my way over to several boxes that I need.
Filling up three boxes didn't even make a dent in the kitchen. The one box contains my copper molds and other knick knackie things. I have a long way to go.
I just placed an order with Silkweaver. Only my second order in about 4 yrs. I know some of my stitching friends are fainting as they read this. I got the Ocean Fantasy mixed color for my little Cape May design that finally arrived. And I asked for a couple of samples from this grouping. I hope they send me a couple of funky colors. I would like the challenge of finding the perfect pattern to go with the colors.
I made spaghetti and meatballs, but was in the mood not to cook. But I just didn't know what I wanted to eat. I had clipped a recipe for oven fried chicken earlier, but I didn't have the pieces of chicken called for. A picnic on a snowy afternoon would have been awesome.
Don't think I'm not counting the days until I have a new oven, etc.!

We're approved!

Yippee! The lady from the bank called a few hours ago and said we had great credit and we got the home equity loan. I was so happy that I went and cleaned out two cabinets! You sure find some interesting things in cabinets. The first cabinet I cleared out had my nice mixer on a stand that's almost 22 yrs old ( I'd love to splurge and get a KitchenAid).
I have a daunting task ahead of me, and about 10+ more big boxes to fill. Why do I have so many jars of pickled stuff? It's mostly Brian's and he said to toss it. I better tell my mom not to give him anything else that's pickled or in a jar. I'm not crazy about smelling oils and stuff and wondering if they are still edible. 'When in doubt', throw it out' is a great motto.

Let it snow?

We are expecting our second snow event of the season tomorrow-maybe from 5-10"! I'm just happy it's over the weekend and the guys don't have to drive to work and school in it. Hopefully that will be it for the winter. I am getting itchy to see if any of the bulbs I planted made it. They weren't easy for me to plant last year. I have some giant red tulips that I really want to see along with new irises and lilies.
Cosmo my cat was so cute this morning. When I wasn't getting up, he came into the room, got up on the bed and stretched the whole length of his body right next to me. He wanted me to get up! I got him some Cosmic catnip in a bag as a treat and he has it almost destroyed. I got my $2 of entertainment watching him bat and chew that toy!
I've learned some sad things in the last few weeks. The guy that was a freshman with Sean who got killed, was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Seems an automotive school in that area likes to drag race along this long stretch on road and Colin happened to be turning right when the gang there was at it.
Then I read in Mindy's blog about Laura, a fellow stitcher that passed away suddenly last Friday. Not sure what happened.
My sister-in-law had a customer who recently was murdered where she worked at a catering business. All these people were so young and probably had many more years ahead of them. God bless them and their families.

Doing your best

I am sorry I called my fellow stitcher's square 'a red blob'. I rarely make comments like that. I was just so surprised that after myself and others offered anyone in the group our books and leaflets, that she chose the one she did. I hope it fits in well with the other more complicated designs. But I am happy she did a square. And doobie-you must like my blog, you looked at it 24 times! I have two counters so I know.

Describe your "perfect" project. (Include the designer or specific pattern, the fabric, the floss, and anything else that would make that project "perfect" for you.)
My perfect project? I would have to say doing one of Van Gogh's designs in cross stitch like 'Sunflowers' (I have the chart). That's a favorite of mine because I love the golds, oranges and yellow and the flowers appeal to me. Wouldn't it be nice to do this one in silks? Wouldn't a pale blue background be nice?

Lil me

Me in kindergarten. I remember my grandmom fixing my hair this way before school.
And the more sophisicated 1st grader. I had a cousin who gave my mom her daughter's nice hand-me-downs.
I was scanning these for my tribe avatars.

Wasted the evening on the Grammys

That was more like a wild concert than an awards show. I was watching for James Taylor who read along with Bonnie Raitt, the album of the year nominees. He looks damn good as did Bonnie and Sir Paul McCartney.
Now I would like to kick both Madonna and Terri Hatcher in the butts for overexposure and not acting like dignified 40-something ladies. At least think of your kids gals! Madonna was strutting around in a gymastic style leotard. We get it, you are flexible for an old broad of 47! And Terri came out in a black filmy number with black hot pants underneath. Lots of smudgey and slutty looking eye make-up too. Even Mariah looked nicer by keep her girls tucked in tonight.
The last number with all the jazzy/folky singers was good-Bonnie sang along. Someday I will get to see her in person.
Speaking of concerts-Hall & Oates are coming home to the Philly area (Tower Theatre) in March. I'll have to see if Brian would want to see them, but the neighborhood is not a nice one where the theatre is located.

Love your child, strap him in

Very foolish Britney. How long does it take to strap a baby in a car seat-20 seconds?

Moving along

We just gave the go-ahead to the lady who explained the Home Equity Loan to us last Thursday. She is an excellent banker and they were letting us have a 20 yr payback, whereas our bank would only go to 15, but preferred 5. So we will be getting all this paperwork to read, lucky us. We need to get the taxes out of the way so we can work on Sean's financial aid for school. Lots of 'fun' stuff indeed!
I feel like I am moving in slow motion at times though. Some days I have energy to do laundry, etc. while other days I sit like a bump on a log. I do feel so much better when I can go outside to walk around or pull weeds. I think Lyme Disease never goes away completely. I have had inflammation in different areas all over my body. I hurt one day in my elbow, and I am fine the next day.
Spring can't get here fast enough.
Stitchingwise-I started the design of Independence Hall as mentioned earlier. The steeple part looks really nice. As I was working on this, the show 'Surface' had it's season finale (I stitch while watching tv). The last shot showed the main characters after a tidal wave hit Wilmington, NC. They found 'high ground' in a church's steeple! Cool coincidence.
Anyway, I was going to share the patterns from this 30 yr old famous landmark book, but I didn't get any requests. Someone did a place in Tennessee that I've never heard of and the design was a big red blob of a building. I would have looked much harder before I picked that one. I would never pick something because it looked easy or I couldn't find anything else. I just would ask someone for a pattern. Go figure. Ok, I have PMS, I can ramble. ; )

Egg-cellent

I have received lots of pretty eggs from Brian and now my friend Terri (the blue and silver one is a music box). I made up this display on my sofa table in front of the window.
On the other end is my slimmed down Wizard of Oz collection. I cross stitched Dorothy there in the middle. I painted the frame and added red glitter.

Post# 801 and thoughts from Mick

We watched the Super Bowl and now the Eagles will never live it down that they were losers last year because of Pittsburgh winning this year's game. Yeah they are from Penna., but way over on the other side of the state. I am happy they won because my friend Mel is a fan.
So during the half-time show, 63 yr old Mick Jagger and his band performed. Did anyone else notice his face was orange and his neck was white? I asked Brian if he wanted a rhinestone belt like Mick's, but Bri's belly would hang over the top of the belt. Mick is one skinny chap.
So Bri was looking up Mick trivia. We were asking about his daughter Jade, etc.
Found this quote from MJ-"I will be dead before I sing 'Satisfaction' when I am 45".
Guess 63 looks a heck of a lot better to him now.
Here is a photo of him and his hot, much younger fiance.

My heart is touched

Thanks for the sweet, touching comments about the bear that I stitched for Joanna. Even her mama left a comment. How great is that?
One wonderful thing about blogging and the internet is that I can share my stitching with you.
Next up-Independence Hall for a tourist themed quilt. One of the ladies in my online stitching group found some awesome backing fabric featuring postcards. There are some interesting designs coming in so far. I believe someone is even doing the Aurora Borealis! Watch for 'the hall' in a few months. I started it today and can't find all the colors I need. The book is from the 70s. Not saying the colors are obsolete, I just don't have a few of them. I have subbed some already thanks to my DMC floss swatch booklet. If you don't have one of them, you are missing out. That's if you are a stitcher who needs to look up a color!

Welcome home soffie

You've heard enough about my sofa and it came home today all fixed forever (I hope!)
It's a pretty thing isn't it? Look, a cross stitching magazine on the coffee table! Are you not surprised? And please ignore the record lps jammed in next to it (Brian!)
My little 'Home Sweet Home' pillow says it all.

A teddy for Joanna

We know all children are special. Love Quilts makes at least 20 quilts for the children each year. I first sent a card to Joanna through Make A Child Smile and received the sweetest thank you note from her and her mom (thanks Lorie). I connected with her sweet face and a teddy was in the works. Here it is, just washed within the hour.

Garden party dress

For those of you bloggers with a green thumb or just like designing things check out this dress:

Darn that Daniel is good! It's the second week in a row that he won. There is fabric under the dress. Read what Tim, their guide says about it at bravo. What are the purple flowers, orchids-like flowers?

A ghostly night

Sean was watching a show on the Travel Channel about ghost hunters. They actually talked about orbs at one point. I have a mystery 'orb' photo I took last July and this prompted me to google a ghost hunter. I actually emailed the guy! He wanted a lot of background info like this:

A brief explanation of each photo. This is untouched. I still have the original on the camera. The second shot is a zoom in of the orb.
Your name- Dianne C.
The type camera used. (35mm, digital, etc.)-Canon Powershot s30

Where the photo was taken , PA- in my backyard at 6-7 pm in the middle of July, 2005. I had been out there taking photos of the butterfly bush seen in the photo.
Were there any other significant occurrences at the time the photo was taken? (i.e., meter readings, sensations, cold spots, etc.)
Just the last part of the day. Not really paying attention to the bench in the shot. The bench is plastic and doesn't have any reflection value. The bench is about 6-7 feet from the window. There are no pink things in that area. I have a glazing ball, but it has a pale yellow crackled finished glass and not in this direct area. I went out at the same time in the following day or so and tried to replicate the photo and no orb showed up. The flash did go off in this shot.. I was about 15 or so feet away from the bench and was using the zoom. I have never seen anything else like this in any of my other photos taken with this camera.
What is the known history of the location where this photo was taken? (i.e., historical, folklore, personal experiences, etc.)
The previous owner (a man) died in the house.
Weather conditions at the time of the photo. (rain, fog, clear, etc.)
Pretty clear, not really hot if I recall.
Can we post your e-mail address or website (if available) with the photo description? Yes.

Here is the close-up of the photo, I call it my fairy bubble. There is nothing pink around the yard in that area and my back was to the sun. It looks like it has landed on the edge of the bench.

Sean was looking at an abandoned hospital where there are about 8-9 webcams set up. I had seen these site before and swear I saw an apparition at one time. Here is Sean's capture screen. When I had this in PSP to cut out the section we wanted, the middle part definitely had more 'smeared pixels' and green and purple blotches.

I circled roughly where I see a face. At first we saw a figure, but I definitely see hollowed eyes and a mouth. It's rather like that Victorian drawing of the lady sitting at a dressing table-do you see a lady brushing her hair or do you see a skull? It's what your mind sees in these kinds of photos.

So then he almost feel off the chair when he saw this on a Hell's Kitchen webcam in an old apartment building:

Not to worry, this hollow-eyed green apparition 'shows up' about every 10 minutes. Very funny, right?
We did watch the Gettysburg battlefield one pointing into McPherson's woods. There was a red dot for a while and then two small dots. Maybe a raccoon or something, but it was pitch black.

Local resident in Olympics!

Hometown man Eric Bernotas is a skeletoner at the Olympics in Torino, Italy this year. He rides on a sled, belly down racing 80 mph. Sounds very dangerous to me. He lives around here, but he is originally from the town that Brian grew up. I'll let you know when he races as they usually have a profile on the person competing. Maybe they came around this area. : )

Flowers for you

Thought I'd share with you my $1.98 bouquet. It's actually two bunches that were 99¢ each. One reason I like this particular grocery store. It was even pretty without the yellow spider mum.
The Philly flower show is coming up at the beginning of March. I haven't been there for a few years. I'm thinking about going with my mom if she is able to attend.
I should be sharing my next cross stitched piece in a matter of days. It's a teddy bear.

Stitching Blogger question

Image hosting by Photobucket The question was: Do I have stitching pals outside of blogland or the internet?

I have met a few pals, Vikki and Mindy but we don't stitch together. We are trying to get a group together to meet near our favorite LNS.

Project Runway Barbies

I just started watching this show (like I need another show to get involved in, the guys roll their eyes). I have always like Barbies and have a collection which is mostly jammed in my back room. I need to take another look at them and whittle down the collection to maybe just designer Barbie brides or fashion designer ones. That being said, I ran across Runway Barbies through a tribe group. I didn't catch this episode, but I believe Nick, the winner's, is going to be mass produced.
Barb and me are the same age. How come she isn't saggy yet? LOL

A nice surprise

Brian came home with this still in it's big manila mailer. I love surprises! It is a new edition of Longwood Gardens-100 years of Garden Splendor. Longwood sent a complimentary copy of it to the paper where Bri works with a blurp for the paper. The guy that works with Bri asked if he wanted it and Bri took it. So he actually didn't buy it for me, but I really had a nice time last night thumbing through it's pages. Knowing that the Gardens has been around over 50 yrs before I have even made an appearance on earth is awesome by seeing it through the photos.

This is where Sean and I went last month. I am trying to devise an exercise program and LG was in my head. I was thinking about getting a yearly pass and going there to walk . If I take my camera or sketch pad, I could really utilize my time there. And it's less than 10 minutes away. Wonder if there is a walking group I could join?

Make an Orange Julius

So what is an Orange Julius? I happened upon this site, which has some neat copycat recipes.
Want to try one?

6 oz frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup milk, can be low-fat
1 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 ice cubes
Put all ingredients in a blender. Blend adding ice cubes one at a time until mixture is smooth.
BTW, I don't even know if Paul even liked these, it just popped in my brain.

Fan fiction based on Extreme Makeover:Home Edition

I was inspired to do a short story by an ex-friend. Unfortunately when she sent me her story to read, I thought she wanted it critiqued and she took my suggestions too much at a personal level. To make a long story short, she is now blocked from my email and I have taken her off my friend's list at the group where we met.
This is my story. I did actually go to school with Paul DiMeo and he's a year older than me. So what would happen if this alumni of the Penncrest class of 1976 did come home? Well, it could happen...maybe.

Can You Ever Go Home Again?
Fan fiction by Dianne

The day’s first sunrays streamed through the skylight as the fax machine started to hum and buzz. Paul was in a deep sleep and this startled him to full alertness. His wife could sleep through anything it seems. He felt around the side table for his black rimmed glasses and sat on the end of the bed and stretched. He got up; staggering at first, to see what had disturbed his much needed rest.
He reached for the fax print-out and did a double take. It was from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition producer. Paul was to go to the next worksite before the rest of the crew and take one cameraman along. The next site was Media, Pennsylvania-his hometown! He smiled with a bit of uncertainty. Was he ready to go back home after all these years? His job as a carpenter/design on television had made him a well known person. He was more of a laid back guy and had always been, until this once-in-a-lifetime job came his way. He didn’t mind getting recognized, but he liked his privacy too.
He went and nudged his wife and she looked at him through half-opened eyes. He told her about the next assignment and she just smiled. She knew that Media held a special place in Paul’s heart. Going home would be good for him. Almost like a vacation.
Before he knew it, he was heading back east. Home to the place where he was the baby of the family. Home to where he acquired his love for carpentry. He still thought back on the time when as a five year old he helped his dad in the process of rebuilding their home after a fire. He was a little tyke, but he learned to swing the hammer quite well.
From the plane’s window, he could see the familiar green, marshy areas that were located right outside of Philadelphia before the plane circled to land. Some things never change. He had been recognized a few times on the plane and he chatted with the people who loved the show and even gave out a few autographs. This day he happened to be wearing blue jean overalls and a sheep farmer’s hat with earflaps. If he wanted to remain in the background, this ‘get up’ made him stand out even more. Joe, the cameramen had a good laugh as Paul was approached by yet more people who recognized him because of the show. Usually it was just his infamous black glasses frames that made people look twice.
The two men piled into a waiting limo. Paul had objected to being driven around in a limo, but there it was and it was a chilly March day, so he hopped in to get out of the cold.
The traffic was bad in this area, especially around the concrete jungle of the airport. When the limo finally made its out into the surrounding suburbs, Paul relaxed a bit and put his head back and dozed a little. He happened to reminisce about his years in high school where he performed on stage and was a lead in the musical Guys and Dolls. His oversized checked suit was a hoot and an audience pleaser. Paul snapped to as the driver got off at the 352 bypass cloverleaf where Paul saw the Granite Run Mall to his left. His old hang out still looked the same! He wondered if the Orange Julius was still there. He had downed quite a few orange shakes there after school. Then in the next second, it occurred to him that they were going to a very familiar place. His stomach did a little somersault. The limo turned onto Barren Road and there was Penncrest High, his old school! Penncrest didn’t look the same; it has been remodeled to accommodate a larger student body. In front of the school was a wave of red and gold-students in their school jackets holding signs that read ‘Welcome Home, Paulie!’ or ‘We love EM:HE!’ He was really touched by all of this and showed off his gapped tooth smile to Joe. When he got out of the limo he waved and looked over the crowd for a familiar face. A man, about his age stepped forward. Paul recognized him as Bob, his best friend from high school! He hadn’t seen him for years. They were 18 years old again and gave each other a little arm punch and then a bear hug. Paul would learn it was Bob who arranged all this!
There was a large cardboard cut-out of a bus, at least 7 feet long by 5 feet tall that looked just like the one used on the show. Most people know that the climax of the tv program is when Ty Pennington and the family getting the makeover beckon the driver to ‘move that bus!’ Now all the Penncrest students started to chat ‘move that bus, move that bus!’ It was then moved slowly to reveal a frail little girl in a wheelchair. She was about five years old and wore a little pink hat with the front brim turned up. No little girl curls or pigtails fell to her shoulders as she was obviously bald beneath the hat. Her skin was very pale white and she had big brown doe-like eyes. She was wheeled over to where Bob and Paul stood. Bob knelt down and kissed his niece Juliette on the head. She was a leukemia patient and had undergone chemo which made her weak and wheelchair bound. Like Paul’s family, her family home had burnt to the ground. Before Paul heard Juliette’s story, he too knelt down and held her tiny hand. He had watery eyes and tried to hold back his tears to no avail. Juliette was a precious child and his heart had already melted.
After Paul heard about Juliette and her family’s plight, he again knelt beside her to ask her a special question. He wanted to know what he could build for her. She answered in a whisper, ‘I’d love a swing set with a fort, please’. Paul told her that he would love to build her one. The kids from the school had been standing quietly taking all of this in. When they heard about Juliette getting a new house plus a swing set, they cheered. Coming home was easier than Paul had ever imagined.
What's real: Paul being from Media and going to Penncrest. Paul's family home did burn to the ground and he helped his dad as a little boy to rebuild it. He did star in Guys and Dolls in the senior play. In fact, he was an important member of his class. And he had a best friend named Bob. The roads, mall and drink stand are all real places.
